If Retail is Dead – why are they building so many new stores?

Something I have noticed in the DC area – but apparently is a thing all over the country – more and more retail stores being built even as fewer people are going to physical retail stores to shop:

• Bloomberg –  These Cities Have Too Many Stores, and They’re Still Building

Physical Retail Stores are dying at an alarming rate:

• CNN Money – Ann Taylor, Dress Barn, Loft, Lane Bryant: Store closures on the way
• MarketWatch – Gymboree files for bankruptcy

But new competitors keeps building stores – we have 7 supermarkets within a two-mile radius of our house here in Virginia – but they are building more:

• Business Insider – A grocery chain you’ve never heard of is about to be one of the biggest in America

And we even have a new Wal-mart coming in!  Not sure when this will end – I fear a lot of empty stores during the next downturn. They can’t all become Halloween Stores:
