Buy and Hold Mutual Fund Portfolio Rules

Stock Portfolio

Active Funds must have reasonable expenses and value-focused strategies—including the flexibility to keep higher cash balances when there aren’t any stocks worth buying from a value standpoint.  We will also invest in flexible Bond Funds and Alternative Strategy Funds to mitigate risk.  Any single fund should not comprise more than 10% of our overall portfolio.  We will also use Morningstar.com’s portfolio X-ray to make sure we don’t have considerable overlap between funds.  Remember, the perfect portfolio is still the one that you can stick with based on your own personal circumstances, risk tolerance, and time horizon.
